Only a couple of things lately. Auditioned for a Honda commercial on Friday for an "engineer" role. I had this big wind fan blowing on me and had to walk up to the camera and hold out my hand (they're basically just going for a certain look). Didn't get it. Maybe I didn't have enough hair for the fan to blow. And had an audition for an independent short film, reading for the role of a realtor talking about a spooky neighborhood story.
Supposedly, "The Chosen" is going to be starting up again real soon. We shot a 5-6 minute short of this last December (one of the picture's from the shoot I posted in an earlier blog) and now we're supposedly shooting a mid-length version. Later, it's supposed to be turned into a "feature film" version. But! I haven't heard from the director and it's supposed to start shooting next weekend for three weeks. And it's supposed to be a lot of action/martial arts, for which none of the cast has been trained (well, it's non-paying and low budget, so I guess I shouldn't expect THE MATRIX, but a little training would be nice so I don't look like a fool). So I have no idea what's going to happen. If it does work out, it should be fun and interesting and I'll get to work with Jackie Chan's action choreographer/fight partner Brad Allan. We'll see about that though. Everything seems up in the air with that project.
On a sad note, a kid was stabbed to death by another student at one of the high school's I've subbed at (Washington High School in South L.A.). Pretty sad and pretty scary. I don't think I had him in class, but it was depressing to hear about. A lot of gang violence at that school. When I checked in to substitute, the man told me "good luck". And it wasn't a joking "good luck", it was a sink-or-swim "good luck". Found out later why. Most of the schools I've been to are similar, and it's really sad to see these kids that don't care at all and that are so cruel. At the same time, it's hard to blame them because they have a really rough world. I've only been called on average about twice a week to work because the automated telephone system calls you in order of your seniority, which I don't have but a month or two of. Plus, teachers generally call the subs that they've had experience with. I'm still tutoring and have about 3 students and that's going allright. We'll see how it goes, but I may be looking for another "day job" real soon. Been working out a lot lately. I always go through phases of hitting it hard, and then getting lazy, and then hitting it hard again. Allright, hope everyone is doing well in internet land.
