It's already been 2 and a half weeks since Thanksgiving, and less time than that until Christmas. Well, I'm back and have had a great last couple weeks. I spent 6 days shooting "The Chosen", the USC graduate thesis film. I had a really great time and met a lot of great people on the set. The cast and crew were great to work with and I think the product will look really good. The director of photography is a professor from The Bejing Film Academy and was extremely meticulous in setting up the shots. The actress opposite me, Jennifer Lauryn, was great to work with and we had a lot of fun on set (there was one point at 2AM where we were both delirious and couldn't quit laughing to fart sounds the camera dolly was making). If you know my personality, you know I get along with people that can laugh at fart sounds. This film was mainly made to show a new form of interactive media. The plans are to shoot a longer version in March, and then if things go well, to make it into a feature film. Jackie Chan's action choreographer, Bradley Allan, will supposedly be a part of it, so that would be quite cool. A lot of production photos were taken, so when I get those, I will post some of them.
I met with a manager (I guess I will exclude his name, although I shouldn't). All was going well and then at the end of the meeting he said he wanted to represent me but there would be one little thing I would have to do... pay him $100/month. I was so pissed that he had wasted my time and told him I was totally against it. Manager's take 15% commission on what you book. Upfront fees are associated with the many people in this town trying to rip off new actors. Beware!
I auditioned for a boxing workout video for Sugar Ray Leonard on 11/30. Eric Sweeney was there (friend from high school). Man, they put us through a pretty rigorous workout! I thought that since I could run for 45 minutes and have been lifting a lot that they wouldn't give me anything I couldn't handle. I was wrong. I got through it, but it was hard to walk afterwards. I got cut. The next day I auditioned for a reality dating show. I don't think I will do that again. I must have felt pretty desperate when I submitted for that.
I did three workshops last week for 2 casting director offices and Ryan Daly, an agent from KSA. All were at Actorsite, and they all went pretty well. Hadn't done any of those for quite a while due to finances, so it felt good to get out there again. On December 6, I went to two open call auditions (which are pretty rare out here) for Verizon and Aetna. But the big audition of the day was being called in for the CBS show Jericho! It was my second time auditioning for the show and the third time being called in to that office (other audition was for The Unit). I hadn't even submitted for it, they just called me in from remembering my past auditions. That means they like me!!! I auditioned for a bad guy type character. Didn't get the role. Patience... I have no doubt I will begin landing these roles. It's a funny business, and you just have to be persistent.
On this last Friday, I again saw Eric Sweeney as we auditioned for the Sony video game NBA 2007/2008. It would be for motion-capture and voice-over and would film in San Diego. They taped me talking a little about myself and then I went into a sound studio and recorded some lines as a reporter. It was a blast! That night I went and saw Eric do stand-up comedy at The Comedy Store. He was pretty funny. I liked his personal-trainer-stretching-out-the-female-client routine. He's a personal trainer.
Yesterday, I went to audition for a non-union feature film about She-Hulk, The Incredible Hulk's comic book cousin (I auditioned for Bruce Banner). Tomorrow, I'll be going in to audition for a FOX commercial, and then next Friday I've got my biggest film audition yet for a SAG independent feature film called Broken Windows. It already has a name actor attached and is being cast by a well known casting director Bonnie Gillespie. Wish me some broken legs! Until next time...
