Hi everybody! Had a great week last week! Got called to audition and booked a short film on Monday that is for the "On the Lot" reality show competition this May on FOX. It was for one of the two lead roles for the film and I was a Dragnet-type FBI agent. I prepared a somewhat quirky character for the audition, but the director, Bradley King, redirected me to make him a "just the facts ma'am" type, so I did it, and he started laughing. Got a call a few hours later saying I got the part! We shot it on Tuesday for about 12 hours and I think it will turn out great. The director was a lot of fun to work with and a really nice guy, and it was obvious that he was very talented. I'm wishing him the best! The winner of the competition gets a 1 million dollar deal with Dreamworks, and of course, a ton of exposure.

The directors trying to get into this competition (very similar to American Idol, but directors are booted each week based on their films) were finally narrowed down to the top 50 after about 12,000 of their films were reviewed. The 50's final task was to write, cast, shoot, edit, and score a 3 minute short film within a week's time. After this, the directors will be narrowed down to 16 and they will premiere on the show, as well as their films (or at least parts of the film will be shown). In the previous stages, Steven Spielberg and Mark Burnett (the exec producers) had teams to go through and identify the qualified directors and their films, but in this final 50, they will have the final say on them. So yours truly will hopefully be watched by Mr. Spielberg and Mr. Burnett! And will hopefully get on FOX in May! Pretty exciting! I'd seen the casting director Karina Walters 3 weeks before at a workshop, so I guess I got in her mind. I previously talked about "On The Lot" on here because I shot a film about a month ago that was supposedly going to be submitted for this competition in the initial round, but it doesn't seem to have ever been submitted and the director is now out of touch with me. Funny how things turn around. You just never know...

In other news, "The Sunday Man" premiered at the American Film Institute over the weekend. I went and got to see myself on the big screen (and eat a lot of different chocolate desserts they had catered). My role was pretty small but I did get one line in the final cut and appeared in various scenes. The film turned out really well and the cinematography was excellent. They said it will be submitted to various film festivals this year, in addition to being screened at the Arclight cinema in Hollywood on 3/28. This is the film that I did in May 2006 that stars Annie Potts from Designing Women and Ted Rooney (you might recognize him as Abe Lincoln in those sleep drug ads as well as a character on Gilmore Girls). I also got two copies of the film, and heck, some gas money!
